Eternal Art for the Heartless Mind

Well its official I received the acceptance letter last week, I will be returning to Belmont in the fall, however before then I am taking the max amount of transfer hours humanly possible. I am so determined to graduate asap, that I don't know what to do with myself. I therefore must focus on the new and incredible that is going to be happening soon. This year I am going to go out with guys of various types, have fun at different concerts, grow out my hair again (I really gotta stop cutting it off, maintain my fab figure, and then figure out my grad/law school plans. To start with, I need to focus on the most important thing ever, my first day of class outfit! complete with bag!! I am so excited, and just so we are clear I am graduating this time and getting Dean's list. So first things first, your music for such a delayed post is Glee's version of Florence and the Machine history in the making classic, Dog Days are Over. Now this is a quintessential remake in my opinion for the show because it adds a hopeful quality that wasn't available in the original version. There is a certain Katy Perry "Fireworks" Corniness that is available to the Glee version of the song, that speaks to me and gets me excited about life and the future. Hope it does the same for you to!

Now as for your art for the week, I wanted to instill some words that I got from church yesterday-- keep the foxes out of your garden. Do with that what you will!

D- Day Is Approaching!

D-Day is fast approaching, and by D-Day I mean my audition into Belmont's commercial music program. I am auditioning three different songs, of course I am wearing a dress, I just have no decided on what 2 songs, I already have the third. But more importantly I have to decide on my outfit. I have absolutely no words to describe how horrible I feel about the negligence of this blog upon my attending school in NYC. I have to say sorry, because even if this blog is purely just for my eyes and no one ever reads it, I still should have kept up a commitment for posts. In not doing so, various aspects of my life for the last 4 months will never be documented, nor can I ever hope to remember them in a full capacity.

Apology over, and now something new.
I am returning to Nashville, and by Nashville I mean Belmont University (I hope). In attending AMDA I have learned quite a few things about myself, my future, and my fashion sense. First of all, I never wear pants. It has become a sort of running joke with my classmates, because if I am in a pair of pants, then it is most likely that I am upset about something. I am a dress wearing girl, and I love it. So upon my return to Nashville, especially when it gets warmer, I plan on cultivating that love and not allowing it to alter in any way. Beginning with this little gem from polyvore.com. Now I realize I didn't complete adhere to my under $100 price, however you can skimp on a good coat, ever. Therefore I am unabashedly over budget by about $20. Can you blame me?

Now usually I try to place the originals of songs on this blog, because usually the covers are dismal, but I have made an exception. Glee is a show that has taken over the country and in doing so has revolutionized how people look at music, finally. Therefore, I see no reason why playing Florence and the Machine's Dog Days Are Over via Glee is inappropriate. After all Glee has changed how we see music and isn't that what my new goal is after all? Changing myself?

I"M ALL SHOOK UP

So I am currently in a show called ALL SHOOK UP. It's all about the kooky things people do when they are or think they are in love. Its a great show and full of a great cast and crew, and its without a doubt one of the most fun experiences of my life. Its also my last show in Nashville, TN. In case you were unclear, I hate it here, always have always will, but at the same time I did grow up here, I am proud of the fact that I was born in Buffalo, NY; but Nashville was home for many years, and while I hate it. Major aspects of my life happened here, my first boyfriend, kiss, proms, homecomings, volleyball, Fame, Fido, Ru San's, Taste of Tokyo, my friends Harrison and Sarah, and now All Shook Up. I'm sure there is plenty more that I am forgetting, but I do have some great memories, for instance I am probably the only person who enjoyed high school, despite that I was never queen of anything, the only time I ran for something I didn't win, I never won a championship, didn't make the honor roll or valedictorian, nor did I win most talented. I however met a massive amount of people that while I am not bFFs with, I would never get rid of their moments or time in my life for anything.

Anyways, since I am feeling so nostalgic, I was hoping to infuse that into my newest polyvore outfit, as well as give you a helping of some art and music, something that has not happened in quite a while. First of all, song I have a hard time summing up my musical tastes, and this is why I am black, but my fave musicians are Ella Fitzgerald, John Mayer, Michael Buble, and Sam Cooke out of the those four two are dead and have been for quite some time. Now that being said, my fave bands are the Clash, Coldplay, Ra Ra Riot, and Queen. In between there, my faves include opera, classical, musical theatre, anything from Glee, all jazz pre 1960 and most pop music, I also love Lenka and Priscilla Ahn. You can't classify me, and you certainly can't define me, a proud aspect of my person when I was in high school, however you can put me in a few song and they sum up who I am and who I want to be. My clothes fit my personality as well, and for that matter my tastes in film and art.

Well I apologize sincerely for my tardiness, life intervened and you know that saying......Well I am sure there is a saying for when life gets to become absolute chaos, with no intention of ceasing. Anywho, the last time I truly posted was Eclipse and while I still Twilight angsty movies and all, its a new day and time to remember our purpose, to talk about Art. Be it film, fashion, music, fine arts, performing arts, etc. Anyways, as you know I am going to AMDA in 41 days, and have been scouring polyvore and goodwills for outfit choices. Well I discovered my move in outfit, but I was so caught up in Polyvore that I completely forgot to post it, and all the others I made up. It was amazing!! Polyvore is addicting! I had an idea, since I hate spending real money on anything besides purses and getting my hair done, I figured I would eventually make a lookbook based on the looks that I have accumulated on Polyvore, that I would use to go shopping... Whatcha think? Personally it works perfectly, because anything and everything except underwear (i.e. panties) can be found at a goodwill or thrift store, it just requires patience. If you have a problem with those types of places, bite me.There is absolutely nothing wrong with shopping at a secondhand store, it does not make you a secondhand person. Okay sorry got a little carried away, anyways here are some of the looks I created!

50 Days until AMDA!!!

Ok, so since this is a really late, I apologize, but since I did start this one in June, I just got distracted, my bad. Life got distracting Alright well, the AMDA countdown is currently at 71 days, and until then, as you know I have been attempting to find a begin classes/ move in outfit appropriate for my beginnings at a NYC school. I also must admit that as much as I hate the books, I am a huge Twilight movie fan, and my friend and I got tickets to the midnight showing of Eclipse this week. After re watching Twilight for the billionth time, I am going to give you three different looks that are reminiscent of the main Twilight women, Bella, Rosalie, Alice. A day version that can be worn to a music class, or on a lunch date. So here we go, let's start with Rosalie first.

Rosalie Cullen- slightly a Bi%$h but in the end she is in a lot of emotional pain, and looks gorgeous doing it! I decided to go with a simple dress with a button down top and a slightly flared bottom, this can be layered underneath with a longsleeve tee, or on top with a long or short sleeve cardigan. I have included a shoe option, brown flats with slight detailing on the back that keeps them from being boring, and a brown heel that is Maryjane styled, open-toed and has stud detailing. I have included the always present black leather bag, which is obviously not part of the 100 or less lineup, but as always, my statement is a good bag is a good investment. I choice a simple brown belt to add a sense of dimension at the waist, and a layered necklace with a floral add on that just adds a hint of whimsy, because lets face it, its Rosalie previous life as a beautiful no it all full or herself princess, that leads to her new life, so that added floral whimsical point is necessary when creating a look that expresses her person.

Next is Alice. Alice Cullen is quite whimsical which allows nonchalance to be harbored towards her power. Let me tell you she has more going on than some flighty flips and her love Jasper. The girl has more power in her pinky, well anyways the outfit I chose here reminds us of Alice's strength and her covering of vulnerability. This outfit is both feminine and strong, as well as youthful and pretty.
I have taken a simple light blue dress and paired it with an always fun accessory, boots. Mustard colored boots to be exact by mixing such a simply feminine piece with such a mannish boot, and paired with a strength reminding bag, our effect is simple, Alice Cullen pretty yet strong, powerful yet vulnerable.

Last but definitely not least is Bella Swan. She is the be all and end of this series, minus the really hot Edward Cullen of course. Her personality inspires her clothing, she steers clear of people, and therefore of bright colors, high heels, any thing a typical girl would gravitate towards. Therefore, this outfit was the most difficult. Not only did I need to convey a precedent of simplicity verging on invisibility, I had to also tweak it in order to make an outfit worth wearing on a date. I hope I have done that. I have paired a simple button tunic with a pair of dark wash skinny jeans, and some simple hoop earrings. The kicker to this outfit lies with the boots, bright red and hinting at a completely other side. Something that will be very obvious with Bella's character in the next movie Breaking Dawn. There also happens to be a very loud bag, something else I just had to throw in there for kicks and giggles, however, unlike my normal polyvore set, this bag is tiny similar to the size of bag Bella wore in Twilight the first film. Either way, this outfit will give you confidence as well as keep you from overcompensating with your assets :).

I have this idea of going to my first AMDA class in this awesome dress and shoes and a great bag, ready and willing to learn all about the art of musical theatre. The issue in that lovely daydream, is the weather. I am unsure of October NYC weather, not sure what to make of it... So here is an outfit for the possibility of rainy day weather. The black dress is simple but chic, the jewelry is whimsical, but stays away from getting to flashy. There is always a need for a decent trench coat or peacoat, in northern states. The red heels are more of a wishful thinking aspect, most likely if it is raining, galoshes will be necessary

I used Parker's black and wearable sense of style as inspiration, and well its obvious the Carrie influence deals with heels,coat,jewelry, and bag. Ballet Schmallet! Well wait a minute...

As most of you should know by now, I will be attending AMDA this fall and since I will be dancing most of the time around 2-3 hours a day five days a week, I felt it was prudent to give you three looks inspired by the use of a leotard. I tend to not wanna have excess clothes prior to dance class, and like to implement my leo under my clothes, or as part of my ensemble. The trick, is to make sure that after class, a quick wash off and a thorough febreeze until you can change leos. That way the outfit can be used again with the sweaty leotard. I always carry either wet wipes and deodorant (for a refresher swipe under the armpits) or my grandmother used to have a wash cloth in a Ziploc bag, (one of the thick ones) to wet as needed and then put back into the bag. That way if you can't immediately change between dance classes and other classes, you won't look like a yucky sweaty mess!

Now, I am a big believer in heels, but since I will be living in NYC, the prime walking capital of the world, I included a flat option. This outfit can also be worn in winter, just throw in a pair of tights a long sleeve leo. Personally, I think a good dose of red to an outfit can change your whole morale. What better way than an entire cardigan made out of red material? This outfit is sure to set a tone before class!

This set is a little more tame of an outfit. As per usual, there are flat and heel options, and the outfit minus the bag is under 100. I think this outfit speaks for itself, the pops of color along such a monotone palate really smack you in the face. Even the skirt with all its color maintains the same hue all the way around, and with the shoes that hue pops out at you. The little headband is simply and accent that can be worn as you choose, hair up or down, in a bun or braid. This outfit is certainly of the Swan Lake Variety.

Now while I always love my polyvore outfit sets equally, today I have one that just fits me who I am, a occasionally flashy somewhat conservative always bohemian and relatively trendy dresser. This outfit calls for a loud skirt and bright tights, something that not everyone will feel comfortable with during the day, but if you wear flats, a cardigan and have a plain leo on, it will seem like a normal outfit. However throw on some strappy heels, and rip off that cardigan and you can go party with the big dogs. I love multiuse things.

So there you have it, three outfits centered around a leo (leotard sorry guys forgot not everyone knows that) Just for positive thinking listen to this.

First Day of School Part Trois

You all didn't think I could possibly forget about my search for the perfect first day of AMDA outfit did you? Since I will mainly live in dance clothes for the next two years, I think to make a great first impression, I need to come to class ready for it all. What do you think of all these possible shoe and bag combos with the dress and tights? Which do you prefer? Depending on how I get to class that day, I might go with the flats or heels and then move forward in my decision from there. That in turn will help me decide how to pick from all the different bags. Shoes shouldn't clash with the bag, they don't have to match but they definitely can't clash. Well, what's your preference? Easy with ballet flats or show them who I am from day one TA-Dah! Heeled t-straps?

The Fallen Golden Girls

Unfortunately this morning, Rue McClanahan passed away. McClanahan was responsible for being part of the funniest and best comedic quartet on regular television ever. There is really no comparison, the Golden Girls was without the funniest and best show to ever grace television, yes it is better than Glee. Every member won at least one Emmy all were nominated more than once, and the show ended at seven seasons simply because Bea Arthur was tired, they were never canceled. In the last three years we have lost three Golden Girls, Estelle Getty, Bea Arthur, and today Rue McClanahan. The lone holdout is Betty White, who ironically was the eldest of the four. I hope that she continues on strong and stays with us for a long time. Anyways, In honor of these four unbelievably talented women, here are four Golden Girl Inspired Looks, all under 100 dollars of course, except for maybe the bags, because well you know my motto a good bag is hard to find!

The best way to describe Dorothy is simple tastes and a solid belief in wearing the clothes, not allowing them to wear her. Dorothy's outfits on the show were never revealing, they didn't have minuscule hemlines and she very rarely wore heels certainly not the platforms present today. She was tall and built somewhat straight up and down, however when describing her look it was demure and classy. She had that inane sense of class, that couldn't be created, it came from her confidence and intelligence. Sophia is probably the hardest Golden Girl to pin down, simply because she won't be pinned down. How many women do you know in their eighties still getting it on? Sophia is sassy and is always ready with a unbelievably timed one-liner. Sophia is the one the others looked to for guidance all the while knowing the "Picture it Sicily" stories that she tells tend to be completely false. Sophia is a woman raring and ready to go, not willing to lay down and die, she is going to meet her maker dancing around in a red dress with fake chests. (If you don't understand the reference, I suggest you watch the episode "Girl's Just Wanna Have Fun Before They Die.") Now I know you will notice the obvious choice of two pairs of shoes with Sophia's night outfit, now we all know Sophia was 80 and over, so she wouldn't have worn the platform shoes trend. Although I bet she wanted to, due to her lack of height. Therefore, for those girls who aren't and are vertically challenged and yet prefer not to wear a obscenely high platform, I have included a delicious flat just for you. And as far as the gold bag, eh I am supposed to take artistic liberties. Two things are synonymous with Sophia, a tan bag and a pair of glasses, she left a legacy that one. She's 80, not dead!

One of the most important and legendary acts of all time, must be the Beatles. I have yet to meet a "sane" person who does not like the Beatles for one reason or another. They inspired so many and can inspire so much in the ways of fashion. I was once asked by a friend, I have so many concert tees how do I wear them so that they don't look like I am going to mow the lawn? The trick is with a simple distressed t-shirt, you should highlight the other aspects of the look. I have separated each piece of a look, bottoms, the inevitable Beatles tee, shoes, bags, and even jewelry and hair accessories. I have also made sure that each piece is fifty dollars or less, except for the purses, I mean come on everyone needs a great bag!

Now everyone pretty much knows the song, Diamond's Are a Girl's Best Friend, well I am here to tell you that this is a lie...

Shoes are undoubtedly a girl's BFF! Shoes can make or break any kind of outfit. Any and every outfit (except maybe haute couture) is made better due to the shoes. Today, I will show you three different outfits made with all the same shoes and would love if you look at how different each outfit is due to the shoes. Therefore, diamonds are cool and all, but shoes are the bees knees.

Let's start with a pair of my favorites found on polyvore, simple but beautiful peep toe pumps with a sort of t-strap across the ankle. Now these can make an outfit super dressy and fancy, really casual worn for a daytime date or a shopping outing, or these shoes can be worn out for a night on the town with the girls, or the hottie from your poli sci class.

First we have the evening look, something really simple and classy, but perfect for a wedding, a graduation, or even a dinner party. The dress adds to the drama of the shoes, the difference in color adds to the shock value, the red and teal mix keep it from looking boring. Simple earrings allow the dress and shoes to stand together without added distractions. The large brown bag creates a certain casual aspect, although it wouldn't take much to add a clutch instead.

Next we have the daytime look, perfectly appropriate for a lunch date,class, or a day out shopping with the girls. Last But certainly not least is the night out outfit. The outfit that is sure to make everyone standup and notice. It is yet again quite simple but still has some edge in both color and style. We mixed the lovely peep toes with a zippered ankle skinny jean in black, paired that with a teal necktie halter and a multicolored wristlet. That is a great outfit on its own, but if you would like something a little less revealing or at the very least with a different color combo than red and teal, we have this great purple top with a lace detailing on the front. It is a fantastic alternative, still extrememly appropriate for a night out!
Now you see, shoes can make or break the outfit, and one pair of shoes can alter the entire effect of the outfit.
Just so we are all clear, here is a more appropriate song instead of "Diamonds Are a Girl's Best Friend" Shoes.

Ok, so as we all know, I am moving to NYC in October. Now since it is New York and all, I will want to shop, but I don't want to arrive in sweats either. Therefore every chance I get, I want to remedy the wardrobe I do have, with either DIY ideas, or with Goodwill Target stops. Anyways I will post my dream versions of these outfits here once a month for your view. Hello One and All!
It has been quite a while since my last post, and I must say times have been achangin'. That's from a Bob Dylan song. And as usual his words speak to me.

Any who, I am officially leaving Belmont University. Life there has been interesting to say the least and after a lot of floundering, I finally figured out my purpose, musical theater. Therefore, in October, I am moving to NYC to attend the American Musical and Dramatic Academy for their integrated conservatory program. I am going to miss pieces of Nashville, but it is time to cut the cord. That also means it is time to adjust my blog's purpose. From now on, I will continue to discuss art,movies, and music, but I will also include blogs on fashion, books, and preparing to moving around 700 miles away from my family. This is a huge step for me, and I looking forward to it with both eyes open and ready for the unbelievable amount of work that is ahead of me.

And know this, as soon as I arrive with my new roommates, who I ironically made friends with at my audition into this school, I will be blasting every New York New York type song until my itunes runs out them. I am so ready for the summer! There is at least one movie for every person this summer. From the indie to the action blockbuster, this could really be a summer of epic proportions at the movies. Go forth and prosper!

Just started a new book! I know it has been forever since I could read purely for pleasure and nothing else, and my chosen read is Greywalker by Kat Richardson. The plot is as follows, a Seattle PI a woman who is very tall and amazon like gets beaten up on a case that technically leaves her dead for two minutes. After that she is able to go from our world to sort of a spirit realm, which leaves her open to all kinds of things bad and good. So far there are two main male characters not sure if she gets it on with either of them, but I am hopeful. So far so good, I am only about 155 pages in, and there is still that amount left, so I can't tell whether it is a good read, but at 3.98 from Borders, it is certainly a cheap one. Massive stand of clearance books at Borders on West End right now, so check it out if you can.

My new favorite trend that I haven't seen much so far, since there is a ridiculous amount of rain drenching the entire state of TN, is the vintage summer dress. Personally the summer dress is a favorite of mine any time of year. But in the summer, especially here in Nashville even shorts are too restraining. Basically it is best to let it all breathe and be free so to speak. Therefore I wear many dresses. You can do all sorts of things with them as well. The summer dress can be dressed up or down depending on your mood, and with millions of patterns and colors can be worn hundreds of ways. I tend to prefer solids so I can work in a whole lot of accessories, but others like large prints and minimal accessories. Adding earrings, a hat, or even putting your hair in a ponytail can completely alter a summer dress. And you can find summer dresses everywhere from vintage shops to Goodwills, even Target or Wal-mart!

New Moon Thanksgiving Belmont

So first things first, New Moon was fantastic. I mean seriously fantastic, without a doubt one of the best movies I have seen this year. I am already planning on seeing it again. Without a doubt much better than twilight. Thanksgiving was typical, semi enjoyable and semi irritating. I made an apple cider brined turkey. It was quite tender and good. I must say my turkeys get better and better every year. Moving on its time to get on the grind and get it together. I have decided to focus completely on school so I can get everything done and hopefully begin to prepare for the Christmas break. Belmont is a great school, but come the end of the semester you get so stressed out. Its amazing. I have two papers, an assortment of creative writing homework, and I need to lose 60 pounds. Its ridiculous so I might have and unfortunate lack of posts in the upcoming weeks. In the mean time, here is Edward Cullen. Oh by the way even if you hated the books, which I did, the movies are so much better!

Thanksgiving break is among us. It is the time of year where we eat way too much unhealthy food, argue way too much with unhealthy relatives, and use a holiday that has origins that are way too unhealthy for actual thankfulness. Thanksgiving deals with the Pilgrims and Native Americans, however they then destroyed them later with fever and progress. That being said, I love Thanksgiving! I love eating to the point where you have to unbutton a few buttons on your pants. I love getting my family together and playing rummy, uno and board games. While I don't always like my family, it seems as if at the holidays all the negative memories dissipate for a day or two. Therefore, I just want to say Happy Thanksgiving! Oh here's the most wonderful photograph I have ever seen.

Ok, so this week I have been procrastinating in a great way, and as a grand procrastinator, I have been thinking on my upcoming audition for the musical swing. I have to sing and dance, although there are various levels of dancing required for a part in the show. Issue number one: I have not danced in a couple of months, not to mention I am a little bit in the fat area right now. That being said, I also have three papers due this week, not to mention I am behind on a test in my Brit Lit class. I also have to pack up all my stuff because I am moving back to my father's house. This is without a doubt the most difficult thanksgiving/ christmas season ever. Did I mention that I am cooking most of Thanksgiving dinner, and I don't get out of school/ off work until that Wednesday! I don't know how I am going to do it. I am cooking for the most people I have ever cooked for, nine that is if my dad doesn't come. It may not seem like a lot to some, but when you usually cook for three including yourself, it is a big adjustment. Oh well, bring on the american standards practice!

The man is a poet, a god sent down from Mt. Olympus to gratify our needs for delectable song lyrics. Whew! That a great sentence, but seriously Justin Nozuka is a beautiful singer/ songwriter. The moment he went on stage with his extremely laidback demeanor and his really quiet voice, he controlled the room. Its amazing the amount of power one can have without raising your voice. Its really a great thing. My mother came with me, and even she (a self-proclaimed old-school only nut) had to agree that Nozuka had pipes. He's like a black guy in Japanese skin! She more or less said. Now, not to stereotype, but I think that's part of why he is so popular. He is not like Jon Mclaughlin or any of the other VH1 you ought to know's guys, which is why he has had so much staying power. The music he creates has an r&b edge, a certain depth that can't be sung just any kind of way. My only complaint is too many drunk idiots both male and female at Mercy Lounge. Jeez if you only want to drink and talk go to a bar, don't pay fifteen bucks in addition to your drinks, that is just stupid! Therefore, listen to Nozuka, he rocks! It has recently been brought to my attention that yet another Nicholas Sparks book is being made into a movie. I have to applaud this decision with every fiber of my overly romantic being. In the opinion of this blogger, Nicholas Sparks writes crap. His books are boring and difficult to get through and in textual space are antiquated and ridiculous. However, his books remade into films are fantastic. They are just the right amount of romance and drama that keep it grown up, but at the same time are almost believable enough to make them realistic. Back from my long hiatus, I have three various pieces of news information for you.

As I have noted many times on this blog, three of my favorite artists are John Mayer, Justin Nozuka, and Michael Buble. I am really excited to note, Justin Nozuka concert next week here in Nashville at Cannery Ballroom and John Mayer just posted a complete concert schedule for next spring. Yay!

In other news, there was recently an Manic Street Preachers's album cover so beautiful and provocative that it was deemed inappropriate, don't you just love it when art resurfaces with such immense power, that it "has" to be censored by the media? I love this so-called democracy. Its a fantastic thing. Anyways here's the painting, and I am for one and unclear of its so-called inappropriateness... You decide.

Oh and finally, Twilight:New Moon will be coming to theatres on November 20, 2009. I for one am extremely excited about it, and this is how I justify my love of the books and the first movie. Its pure unadulterrated teen awkwardness at its peak. In my opinion, the Twilight books stink, they are unoriginal and very teenage in their writing structure. However, that's what makes them addicting. The love that is bigger than two species, the oddness of both main characters, and the awkwardness that is felt in every first real teen relationship is put into easily understood words in Stephanie Myers novels. The only difference being the final book which is just really cool fantasy stuff. I can't help it I think that imagining a fantastical romance with a vampire who is a hottie like Robert Pattinson would be just an amazing experience.

So I am so far behind due to past illnesses, that I now have an overabundance of makeup work to do. This would have been ok if it weren't for the fact that I was supposed to go to Virginia this weekend. I am so screwed! Not only did I forget my poem rewrites in my apartment, but I forgot my rough draft as well. So I am now sitting here at my job unable to leave and go get my hw and wasting valuable time. All I will be able to do is type up my already written hw. This is just horrible. Not to mention that I am also behind in painting and can't start on my new piece until my roommate gets back so I can photograph her. Plus my apartment got written for Residential vagrancy. I have to ask, can it get any worse? To give you all something interesting to think about, here is the music that I have been obsessing over as well as the inspiration for my newest art piece.

Work Work

So I know its been forever since I have posted, but the start of school, plus illness has made it difficult to post. But, I am Back! I Have had a lot of time to work on my play/ book. I wrote the first seven chapters or scenes based on a dream I had. There is a lot of reworking thats needs to occur, but so far its looking like it could be a good thing. Wish me luck!

I am in the middle of french lessons/ courses, french flashcards, practice CLEP French exams, practice AP French exams, and budget sheets all in the hopes of being ready come January. I don't really know what to say. I have been highly neglectful when it comes to my blog. I think its because of finals, and final projects, that sort of thing has been overwhelming my mind. Where Is Ben Folds?

Ok, so as previously stated, I am an avid Ben Folds fan. Not only have I been to four of his shows, I frequent (not on purpose) many of his stomping grounds. I have all his albums and know where his house is.
I am not a stalker though. I know where his house is purely because my friend Hbomb's sister stalked him when she was in high school, and I live off of his street. I attend Belmont, I can't help but know him and love him. Anyways so the reason behind my extremely unclever "where is waldo" reference, is because of this. Not only do I constantly run into Ben Folds outside of a concert arena, but I did today twice in one day at two different places with two parts of his family. I don't really know how I manage it, but I have run into Ben at my two favorite hw places, 21st avenue starbucks and fido in hvillage. I have run into Ben at Fido before, and when I say run, I mean literally run into him. haha
I also know that his kids go to USN which is down the street from starbucks, I suppose it was only a matter of time before I ran into him here. Still, its really weird people go their entire lives without running into anyone famous, and I run into people all the time. And again, I didn't stalk him the reason I know that his kids go to USN, is simply because my brother went there, as did a few of my friends, and my friend ali found out through a high school literary conference. What made today's encounter even funnier was that I was listening to Hiroshima as he walked in, how ironic is that? lol It made my horrible day a little bit better let me tell you.

Well moving on to slightly more interesting topics, todays artwork is a piece by Vermeer a painter from the renaissance, who constantly painted people at a window. I had to do a project on him in 2-D design, and its only fair that you all are exposed to him as well.

So, easter break is over. That is the last break for the semester, until school is out. Oh where oh where has the time gone? Omg! well anyways back to my extraordinarily interesting blog. I subscribe to teen girl magazines. Yeah I admit, seventeen, teen vogue, cosmo girl, elle girl, all of them. I don't know if they are a new band, but they are to me. They are kind of a vampire weekend/ clap your hands combination. Great music though. Level of Nirvana has been reached

It is amazing what good music can do to your psyche. Last night, I attended the Ben Folds concert at the Ryman Auditiorium in Nashville, and it was amazing. Ironically, I have seen Ben on three other occasions, but I could never appreciate how well he plays at the Ryman. I am even more excited to see what Death Cab does with the Ryman in May.

Anyways the opening act for Ben was this band called Jukebox the Ghost. Without a doubt, one of the best bands I have heard in a long time. Not only were they a little quirky, they were also adorable, with a side of intellectual. Like any redblooded american college student, I proceeded to stalk them at the next available opportunity, they all went to George Washington University! Intellegience mixed with quirky is always a good combination.

As for Ben Folds, what more can be said about the man? He takes the "Piano Man" to a new level that at this point in history no one has been able to copy. The talent for being an indie/ alternative musician, but having commercial success without sellling out is quite endearing and gives hope to those of us who follow a "real" alternative lifestyle. This post is for all thos Vandy and Belmont indie hopefuls/ preppy kids that were at last nights sold out show. I am one of you!

So in light of the fact that I haven't made any posts recently, I thought this little tidbit would be interesting.
It appears that two major forces in music/ movie scene are making to the ultimate collaboration, marriage. Death Cab for Cutie's and Postal Service's frontman Ben Gibbard, and Zooey Deschanel, the wonderful lead of She&Him/ quirky character in lots of movies (i.e. Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy). Starbucks, global domination, spring break, and music

So, this past week was my spring break and unfortunately while I worked every single day I have yet to finish anything. So, today you see the musical stylings of beyonce and death cab, the two musicians that I listened to non stop. Specifically "Halo" and "I will follow you into the dark." Both are brilliant songs, but like I said I was in study mode so I therefore, I haven't any new art for you, but be gracious and happy. Death Cab is better than any art work!

As of right now, I am currently working on three art projects, three pieces for the student art show, and an english presentation. Did I mention that I also work, and have all of that due this week? I love college. Its a brilliant plan created by Starbucks, as I spent a total of 7.00 dollars a day six days in a week. That's 42.00 dollars, which on a student's budget is like a month's worth of income. Brilliant Starbucks! Brilliant, world domination is upcoming, I can see it in their future.

Oh and everyone I ran into Ben Folds Yet again!! I love that man, he is just as awkward looking in person as he is in pictures/ videos.

The new post pic is Gustav Klimt's the Kiss. I don't think I have discussed it before, but I believe listening to the three artists listed exhibits feeling evoked by this painting.

Cafe Coco for Dummies

Ok so this past VDay eve, my friends and I went to a show at Cafe Coco, a Local coffee shop known for open mics and their pasta dishes. Anyways a friend of ours James Fate aka Nate from Starbucks was playing with his full band. Along with Fate, was a singer/ songwriter, Molly Jewell. This Molly Jewell was fantastic! She had one song in particular about a crush she had on her doctor. She included both the violin, viola, and guitar in her set. Her songs were different than the typical female pianist/ singer but at the same time classic. There was an opening band as well, Abbydoyoudance, but once I realized I had the same pants as the male vocalist, I lost interest. the whole night was fantastic, and we ended with a movie on my friend's couch, Garden State. Now, if you haven't seen this movie, I suggest you remedy that immediately. Garden State is without a doubt one of my alltime favorites. The soundtrack got me to thinking, want to see some artwork inspired by the Garden State Sondtrack? Here you go, enjoy! Don't forget to check out Garden State!

I realize it has been a while since I have posted, so I figured what night would be better than grammy night? GO Coldplay!! Any who, I am watching the Grammys as I post this, and came across a new album from a friend of mine on facebook. First of all, yes I have and regularly use facebook; its a passioin of mine. this photograph is gorgeous! I plan on using it as the inspiration for a painting piece in the near future. This would be a great background for Coldplay's lost video right? I know I think so. Enjoy!

Death Cab Coming Soon To A Town Near You

So, even though this is a blog about art and its influence on life, society, blah, blah, blah. I wanted to include yet another tidbit on how art reflects music and vice versa. When I paint I have a playlist that is solely for me to paint. Included on this Itunes playlist is one of my alltime fave bands, Death Cab for Cutie. Death Cab= Ben Gibbard, who is a musical mastermind, I mean the man is a genius and his voice, well you will figure it out for yourself. Anyways one song in particular is brought to mind, especially when I look at this random long exposure photograph of a city street that I found, doesn't it remind you of I Will Possess Your Heart? Its a relatively newer song from Death Cab, but its a great one. Check it out, while looking at this new picture! See what you think. Oh yeah, and the reason I thought of it is because my friends got Death Cab tickets!!

Grimeys/ Great Escape: Great CD Cover Art

In an age where the Compact Disc is slowly becoming something of the past, with Itunes, Amazon.com, and Rhapsody , it is nice to see the art on cds from newer and older bands. After an absolutely delightful cd excursion with some friends saturday, I discovered a category of art that has yet to be developed into its full potential, cd cover art. The designs and pictorials that cover some of the cds nowadays are fantastic! They range from cartoons to serious pictures to intricately drawn landscapes and portraits. The cd covers themselves could easily go in a design portfolio. As an art major, I am always looking at art that isn't traditional, and this definitely fits that. The sarcasm, irony, and comedic value that is expressed in such a small way is truly remarkable. The creative devotion that had to have gone into such clever drawings, is just inspiring. It is yet another way to show how art and music are complementary to each other. Without that aesthetically pleasing picture and intriguing format, we wouldn't even notice cds. Art can reflect music

There is a lesser known piece called Autumn Landscape, by Vincent Van Gogh its a gorgeous piece. Although that is where the similarity between it and his more famous works ends. It sticks with depicting an autumn scene in earthy tones, nothing like the bright colors that we are used to seeing in his more famous works. (Starry Night, Sunflowers, Self- Portrait) The reason it struck me as interesting, is the immediate thoughts of a song off the nick and norah's infinite playlist soundtrack, the song Speed of Sound By Chris Bell. For some reason when I saw this painting that song came immediately to mind. I don't know why but it did. Following that, half the Almost Famous Soundtrack came to mind. I think it is the fact that even though the landscape is unlike most of Van Gogh famous works, it is unlike many typical landscapes of that period. For instance in comparison to Van Gogh's landscape, any of the many outdoor scenes that Monet painted or Renoir. The lightness and "sweetness" could fall off the page. In Van Gogh's however, it is obvious he painted with a completely different spirit. It is dark and somewhat angry unlike the typical spring depictions of nature.

So I was doing the Let Freedom Sing Concert here in Nashville, TN last night and our guest singer was none other than Melinda Doolittle, the real American Idol. Anyways it was so much fun and my brother about had a conniption when we finally found her after the concert. It was nuts. Anyway I met her and got take pictures with her. Now here's is why this has somewhat to do with art. In front of schermerhorn symphony center, there is a large fountain that i have seen before but never really paid attention to until that night. Its been freezing in Nashville, and it was obvious from the fountain, but in my opinion that just made it better! The water from the fountain is an enthusiastic depiction of excitement, it's a free billboard announcing to all what can be found in the Schermerhorn Symphony Center. All in all, one great night.

wow! two in one day!

well anyways, I wanted to comment on my chosen profile picture for this week. Egon Schiele's painting, Donna Seduta. The first thing that screams out at you while looking at this work in particular, is the realism. Egon Schiele is most known for his erotic expressionist portrayals of himself, and others. This piece in particular is quite realistic and not at all erotic. There is the woman's slight state of undress, (by the decorum standards of the time.) but compared to most of Schiele's other works there is nothing illicit about it. The woman is painted almost demurely, when in fact she was supposed to be a prostitute/ seductress of some kind. The painting is beautifully light and pretty, which is also another difference between it and others in Schiele's collection. "A beauty in the rough," most of Schiele's paintings are proud of their grotesque and somewhat beautiful-ugly images. Now this piece is completely opposite which explains why it is one his most well-known works around the world. The poor thing, he died before he was thirty. He was also a somewhat odd looking fellow, what do you think?

Starting Now

Today I am creating a blog. My roommate and another friend of mine both have blogs and I figured why not? I want to be an artist a third of the time, a lawyer a third of the time, and a writer for the rest. (I chose thirds because they are the easier to separate) So, I am hopefully going to influence whoever reads this blog to A) have a deeper comprehension of art that is typically under-appreciated/ over analyzed; and B) understand in the opinion of an art student exactly what is art and what is hysterical. If you hate art, maybe this will change your mind. Its interesting, blogs are like diaries that you let people read. Every week or so, I will post a different profile picture and write a paragraph about it. Throughout the week, not only will I continue to comment on it, but I will also look for things in my life that remind of this painting. Either in color, size, location, etc. everything in the world represents something else its just a matter of finding it. In the eternal words of Scott Adams, "Creativity is allowing yourself to make mistakes. Art is knowing which ones to keep."
